Music Consultation:
To plan the perfect mix of music for your event I always meet with the bride and groom well in advance for a music consultation session to get them thinking about who will be at the wedding reception. For some couples it can be initially challenging to decide what songs should be played at their wedding. Once they have a good idea of who is going to be there, I ask them to think of their favorite songs, but to also consider what their family and friends might want to hear. I don’t ever dictate what should be played, but will offer suggestions and provide feedback on past experiences. What may have worked at one wedding to get everyone on the dance floor might clear the dance floor at another wedding. I strive to create a mix appropriate for the majority of the crowd while catering to the wedding couple’s tastes.

Dance Music:
I tend to play a mix of new and old styles throughout the night to keep everyone dancing. For the most part I play songs early on that guests of all ages will enjoy whether it’s starting off with a slow song by Elvis or Frank Sinatra or a more upbeat selection from Motown artists such as The Jackson 5 or Stevie Wonder, keep in mind these are only examples, it’s your wedding and I work with you. As the evening continues I may play more current hits for the younger crowd while still throwing in something for everyone else here and there. Could be some 70’s funk, maybe some 80’s new wave, or maybe a 90’s hip hop set. Everything really depends on the make up of the crowd and what the bride and groom want to hear on their wedding day. I have had to DJ for diverse crowds and incorporate everything from current R&B/Hip-Hop hits to country to Latin music during an event. You can also let me know songs you do not want played no matter who requests it.

Cocktail and Dinner Music:
I also work with couples on planning what to play during cocktail hours and during dinner. Cocktail music can set the tone for the whole evening, it can be fun and upbeat. If artists like Bright Eyes, Feist, Death Cab for Cutie, Ray LaMontagne, and David Gray appeal to you, I will work with you on designing a playlist for dinner that is enjoyable for your guests at a level that is not too overbearing for conversation. Perhaps more pop mainstream artists like Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, and Jack Johnson are more your style or maybe you want classic soul like Al Green and The Spinners with some new soul by John Legend and Mary J Blige. Maybe you are looking for more traditional styles of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald mixed with some contemporary artists like Michael Buble, Norah Jones, and Diana Krall. Funk, Motown, Classic Rock, Country, Show Tunes, Reggae, Big Band, Brazilian Jazz… whatever suits your style, I will incorporate into your event at the appropriate moments.

Wedding and Event Planning:
If you do not have a wedding coordinator or event planner, I will work with your venue, caterer, photographers and videographers on planning the timeline of your event to ensure everything runs smoothly. The success of a wedding reception depends on the flow of individual events from the bridal party introductions all the way to the last song. I will help develop a flexible timeline that will be accommodating to the bridal party with seamless transitions. You choose what individual events you want to do.
